Privacy policy

Your data, and your customers’, handled carefully.

What we collect, what we never touch, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have — in plain language.

Last updated 25 September 2026Applies to tajami.com and the Tajami service

In short

  • Business accounts only. Your personal account and private chats are never connected or read.
  • We use messages sent to your business to answer those customers, and for nothing else.
  • We never sell data, and never share one seller’s data with another.
  • Card details stay with licensed payment partners — we never see them.
  • You can see, correct, export or delete your data at any time.

This summary helps you read the document; it does not replace it. If the two ever differ, the full text below applies.

01Who we are

Tajami (“Tajami”, “we”, “us”) makes software that answers factual customer questions in a seller’s WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Telegram business inbox, sends complaints, and any negotiation outside the limits the seller has set, to the seller, and lets customers pay through licensed payment partners.

This policy explains what personal data we handle, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. It is written to meet the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and, where they apply, other data protection laws in the markets we operate in.

Our registered company details and the contact for our Data Protection Officer are listed in section 15.

02Who this policy covers

We handle personal data about three groups of people, in different roles:

  • Sellers — businesses that sign up and connect a business account. For their account data, Tajami is the controller.
  • Their customers — people who message a seller’s business account. For these messages, the seller is the controller and Tajami processes them on the seller’s behalf and on their instructions.
  • Visitors to tajami.com.

If you are a customer of a seller and want to exercise your rights, you can contact the seller or us; we will help either way.

03What we collect

We only collect what the service needs to work.

04What we never collect

Some things are outside Tajami entirely, by design:

  • Your personal account and private chats. Tajami connects only to a business account through the platform’s own permission screen. Personal accounts cannot be connected, so personal DMs, friends and family are never read or stored.
  • Card numbers, PINs or bank passwords. Payments are handled by licensed partners; we receive the result, not the card.
  • Messages from people who never wrote to you. We do not scrape, buy or import contact lists.
  • Tracking or advertising cookies on this website. tajami.com runs no analytics or ad trackers today. If that ever changes, this policy will change first, and you will be asked where the law requires it.

05How we use it

  • Answering factual customer questions — price, stock, delivery, how to pay — from your catalogue.
  • Negotiating within the limits you set, and sending complaints, anything uncertain and any negotiation outside your limits to you, with the context.
  • Creating payment links, reserving stock and confirming payments.
  • Billing you for usage and showing you what it cost.
  • Keeping the service secure, preventing abuse and fixing faults.
  • Improving how the agent answers your customers — for example learning from the corrections you make. One seller’s data is never used to inform another seller’s answers or reports.
  • Meeting legal, tax and regulatory obligations.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use customer messages for advertising.

06Our legal bases

  • Contract — to provide the service a seller signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure and improve it, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation — tax, accounting, anti-fraud and regulator requests.
  • Consent — where the law requires it; you can withdraw consent at any time without affecting what happened before.

07Who we share it with

Only with the parties needed to run the service, under contracts that limit what they may do with it:

  • Messaging platforms (WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, run by Meta; Telegram; and any channel added later) — to receive and send messages, under their own terms.
  • Licensed payment partners — to take payments, split commission at source and settle money to the seller.
  • Delivery partners chosen by the seller — the recipient’s name, phone and delivery address, and what is being sent, so the order can be delivered. Nothing else.
  • Infrastructure providers — cloud hosting, storage, email and SMS delivery.
  • AI model providers — to understand and draft replies. We require that they do not use your data to train their own models.
  • Professional advisers and authorities — where the law requires it, or to protect people from fraud or harm.
  • A buyer or successor — if Tajami is ever sold or merged, under the same protections.

We never share one seller’s customers, sales or messages with another seller.

08International transfers

Some of our providers store or process data outside Nigeria. When that happens we use safeguards the law recognises — such as adequacy decisions or contractual clauses — so your data is protected to the same standard.

09How long we keep it

  • Seller account data — while the account is open, then up to 90 days to let you come back or export, unless the law requires longer.
  • Customer messages and order history — as long as the seller keeps them, and deleted when the seller deletes them or closes the account.
  • Payment and billing records — as long as tax and financial law requires (usually six years).
  • Security logs — up to 12 months.

After that, data is deleted or anonymised so it can no longer identify anyone.

10How we protect it

  • Encryption in transit and at rest.
  • Access limited to staff who need it, with logging.
  • Access tokens for connected accounts stored encrypted and revocable at any time from the platform or from Tajami.
  • Regular reviews of our providers’ security.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you and the regulator within the time the law requires.

More detail — what is built today, what comes before launch, and how to report a vulnerability — is on the security page.

11Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct anything inaccurate.
  • Delete your data, where we are not required to keep it.
  • Restrict or object to some uses, including profiling.
  • Take your data with you in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent where we rely on it.
  • Complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, or the regulator where you live.

Email privacy@tajami.com to use any of them. We reply within 30 days, free of charge, and may ask you to confirm who you are first. Sellers can also disconnect their business account at any time, which stops all access immediately.

12Children

Tajami is for businesses. Seller accounts are for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from children; if you think we have, tell us and we will delete it.

13Cookies and local storage

This website uses no cookies. It stores two small items in your own browser’s storage: your light or dark preference, and whether you have already seen the opening animation in this visit. Neither is sent to us, and you can clear both from your browser settings.

14Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell sellers by email or in the app before it takes effect.
